Analysis Posters
On page 62, there are three documents. They are all posters. The first one and the second announce movies while the last one announces a TV show.The first poster and the last one are very similar. Both have dark colors like gray, black, just to mention a few; and both show us soldiers. Despite the fact that they look alike, the first one, which announces the movie saving private ryan, uses small fonts. The focus is a soldier alone, walking in the dark: only the silhouette is visible. At the top, there are four soldiers, whose only the heads are shown. Their eyes are looking to a “lost point” and the viewer doesn’t know very well what they are looking at. Also, in saving private ryan, the black area is small, so the horizon is large, while in the last poster, BAND OF BROTHERS it’s the opposite. In this poster, which also reinforces the fact that the horizon is smaller than the other, the focus is on a lot of soldiers, not only one. This reduces the “horizon”, which may symbolize hope. The second poster announces the movie Apocalypse Now. The only similarity between this poster and the others is the fact that the theme is the same: war (even if they the three don’t portray the same wars). However, this poster does not show any credits and most of it focuses on the landscape. The colors turn around orange and yellow, there are small helicopters at the top and they look like black birds. There is a river at the bottom and smoke fills most of the poster. All those elements remind me of death. The colors remind me of blood, and it looks as if the title was written with a knife. The smoke connotes destruction: a bomb must have exploded and devastated everything, even the credits.
